Pasteur Institute Anti-Streptococci Serum

c. Late 1880s - 1890s

For the last 133 years, the Pasteur Institute has been at the forefront of biological research and vaccine development. The Pasteur Institute is responsible for some of the most important vaccines in the history of medicine. Polio, Yellow Fever, and the Bubonic Plague, just to name a few.

This glass vial contained one of the many discoveries by the Pasteur Institute's founder, Louis Pasteur, a treatment for Streptococcus, a type of bacteria then causes a range of skin and mucus membrane issues like Pink Eye and Strep Throat.

The serum was derived from the antibodies of animals that had been infected with Streptococcus bacteria. I read a few different accounts of the serum's effect, and some patients recovered from the illness while others didn't.
